I find these signs in both Russian and Udmurt languages very nice. The funniest thing is that Udmurt language is still rare to see in ordinary Izhevsk shops whereas a foreign chain Metro does have bilingual signs already.

staraniseed asked: Hi, I might be coming to Izhevsk in the summer to teach English (still working out the details). Anything I should know before taking the plunge? Lovely blog, by the way!

Hi! Thank you:) The first thing is that Izhevsk is the best place to have a relaxed way of life)) There are always some events though, but not like twenty a day, rather two or three events a week. On the other hand you don’t have to torture yourself with picking up the most interesting one:) And the nature is beauty as well even if the city looks very post-soviet. So let me know how you decide and feel free to ask questions!

It was very cold today, about - 10 degrees. A few people outside, only the fearless ones. We just took some pics and ran into a cafe quickly.

A great place to stay for a couple of days in summer.
